Sonemat is pleased to announce its joint progress alongside the Manufacturing & Technology Centre, Jetsoft, Theta Technologies and 3T RPD in RASCAL, a project delivering a cost effective and fast solution to accurately identifying defects in additive manufactured metal parts.

The system is a two stage process, searching for both surface level and sub-surface defects through methods of non-linear resonance and thermography testing. The aim is for the product to be enclosed, easily operated and have a significantly lower price-point than other more conventional methods.

At Sonemat we are developing the thermography stage of the system, implementing high tech infrared cameras and custom-built software, designed specifically for this project, with control of the robotic arm and image capture all built into one elegant and intuitive program that can be run on any modern PC.

Shear Horizontal (SH) EMATs added to our specialist transducers range »

Due to the unique properties of shear-horizontal guided and bulk waves, and popular demand for bespoke EMATs capable of generating and detecting them, we have added Shear Horizontal EMATs to our transducer lists.
The transducers generate a shear horizontal wave either as a plate mode in a thin sheet, or a bulk wave in thicker material with the angle of propagation dependent on the driving frequency. This allows it to be used in a range of novel applications such as frequency controlled scanning, thickness gauging and round-corner scanning.

New Sonemat product »

Sonemat is pleased to introduce the latest addition to its GS series of EMAT adaptor boxes, the GS2020! This features ass the compatibility of the GS1100 but with an integral A-D convertor, running averager and D-A system to resend the averaged data to a flaw detector. Most modern flaw detectors can comfortably operate at a 1kHz repetition rate, allowing the GS2020 to massively bost signal: noise ratio without significant response delay. This opens up many new potential applications for EMAT measurements in the field.
